Year 9 Takes on Real-World Design Thinking Challenges Set by The St. Regis Bangkok
Arnaud La Monica of The St. Regis Bangkok set Year 9 four real hotel challenges, from reducing food waste to engaging younger guests, as groups prepare to present their solutions.
A real brief, for a real client
Our Year 9 students are working on a Design Thinking challenge which is presented to them by The St. Regis Bangkok. On 2 September, Arnaud La Monica, Assistant Director of Food and Beverage at The St. Regis Bangkok, visited SBS Bangkok to launch the project.
The St. Regis is part of Marriott International, and the project runs under the partnership between Marriott and the Arthit Ourairat Institution (AOI), which brings industry exposure to students across our schools.
Arnaud brought four challenges drawn from the hotel's own operations, from reducing food waste to engaging younger guests. Working in groups, our students are researching each one, prototyping solutions and refining their ideas, with the Marriott 2025 Serve 360 report as a reference. In a few weeks, Arnaud will return to see each group present their solutions.
Design Thinking teaches our students to take a problem apart, test ideas and communicate clearly. Working to a real brief, for a real client, makes that learning land differently.
SBS Bangkok has introduced myHappymind, a neuroscience-based wellbeing programme from Early Years to Year 6 and into Lower Secondary, with a parent app.
Aclaire, Year 5, earned Gold and the Thailand Top Country Winner trophy at the MCE Singapore Mathematics Competition Global Round 2026, plus a HIPPO Gold.
