Our mission in every classroom

Three commitments shape every lesson, from the Toddler classroom to the science lab.

  • A science teacher talking with two students in the lab

    Inspire academic success

A culture of high performance and achievement

Every lesson has a clear purpose, learning is sequenced so it builds step by step, and teachers give feedback students can act on.

    • Lesson objectives children understand
    • Actionable feedback from teachers
    • Extension for the more able
  • A teacher pointing to a feelings chart on the classroom wall

    Nurture holistic wellbeing

Social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive

Student wellbeing and care are the core responsibility of every teacher. Children learn to recognise their feelings and manage them, with resilience, empathy and self-awareness.

    • Weekly Wellbeing lessons in Primary
    • My Happy Mind and the Zones of Regulation
    • myMindcoach in Lower Secondary
  • Two students cutting materials on the scroll saws in the Design Innovation workshop

    Cultivate curiosity and passion

A desire to know more and make a difference

Children learn by doing: inquiry and play in the Early Years, designing and making in Primary, and Design Thinking with industry partners in Year 9.

    • Inquiry and play from Toddlers
    • Design Innovation in the Maker Space
    • Students encouraged to think innovatively

Six principles of high-quality teaching

Every teacher at SBS Bangkok works to the same six principles, whatever the age of the child.

  • A teacher leaning in to talk with pupils at their table

    Learning culture

Clear routines, strong relationships and our core values make learning familiar and fun.

  • Students working at desks in a seminar room

    Purpose and planning

    Clear objectives, carefully sequenced.

  • A pupil writing her answer on the whiteboard

    Teaching skills

Active learning, built on secure subject knowledge.

  • A teacher giving feedback to a pupil on his writing

    Assessment for learning

Questioning, feedback and a mix of assessments show what each child needs next.

  • A teacher helping two young pupils at their table

    Differentiation and challenge

Support where it is needed, and stretch for those ready to go further.

  • Two students working on laptops

    Innovation

New approaches and technology, and students encouraged to think in new ways.

Learning that grows with your child

Our spiral curriculum introduces ideas, then returns to them in greater depth at every stage.

Assessment that fits the age

How we check progress changes as children grow. The aim stays the same: very few surprises.

  1. Toddlers

Observation, with written comments and no grades

  2. Early Years

Continuous observation against Cambridge learning statements

  3. Primary

Classroom assessment against Cambridge Primary objectives

  4. Lower Secondary

Baseline tests, Progression Tests, Checkpoint and exams

  • Written reports

Progress reports through the year show how your child is doing and what comes next.

  • Parent conferences

Twice a year, in Terms 1 and 2, to share progress and set goals together.

  • Whenever you need

Parents are a child’s first teachers, and we are always happy to meet.

Questions parents ask

  • Which curriculum does SBS Bangkok follow?

Cambridge International, from Early Years to Lower Secondary, with programmes of our own at each stage: the Inquire Programme in Early Years, SBS Inspire in Primary and SBS Innovate in Lower Secondary. Toddlers follow our own programme as a foundation.

  • What is a spiral curriculum?

Ideas are introduced, then revisited in greater depth as children move through the school, so understanding is reinforced and expanded every year.

  • How do you support children who need help, or more challenge?

Scaffolded tasks and accommodations for learning, language and behavioural needs are a natural part of every class. Children who grasp ideas quickly are stretched with ‘low threshold, high ceiling’ tasks.

  • How is wellbeing taught?

Wellbeing is part of every teacher’s role. In Primary, a weekly Wellbeing lesson covers five pillars: social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive and physical. Lower Secondary uses myMindcoach.

  • What are the school values?

Courage, Open-mindedness, Respect and Excellence. They guide the behaviour and expectations that great learning requires.

  • How do you work with parents?

We see parents as a child’s first and most enduring educators. Talk to teachers day to day, at parent conferences or whenever you need.
