Loy Krathong Day at SBS Bangkok: Honouring Thai Heritage and the Queen Mother’s Legacy
SBS International School Bangkok celebrated Loy Krathong Day through creative, hands-on learning that honoured Thai heritage and the royal legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother — connecting culture, leadership, and community in meaningful ways.
A Celebration of Learning, Leadership, and Culture
SBS International School Bangkok celebrated Loy Krathong Day with a heartfelt and meaningful event that invited students to explore the beauty of Thai culture through hands-on learning experiences. Rooted in respect, creativity, and community, the celebration connected classroom learning with Thailand’s living traditions — reminding everyone of the importance of gratitude and environmental care.
The afternoon began with an opening ceremony that reflected on the cultural and environmental significance of Loy Krathong, followed by a series of interactive cultural stations. Students created eco-friendly krathongs from natural materials, enjoyed traditional Thai games, and explored the history of the festival and the royal contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother to the preservation of Thai arts, culture, and nature.
Throughout the event, older students took on leadership roles, guiding and supporting their younger peers with care and confidence. This spirit of collaboration and service reflects one of the defining values of SBS Bangkok — nurturing leadership through community and shared experience.
The celebration provided students with a deeper understanding of Thailand’s cultural heritage and a renewed sense of appreciation for the Queen Mother’s enduring legacy. It was a beautiful reflection of the school’s commitment to holistic education, where academic learning, cultural awareness, and emotional growth come together in harmony.
