D.E.A.R. Time at SBS Bangkok: Nurturing a Love of Reading During Book Week

As part of Book Week, SBS Bangkok’s D.E.A.R. Time brought students, teachers, and staff together for a shared moment of reading, encouraging focus, imagination, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Sometimes, the most powerful learning moments are also the quietest.

As part of Book Week, the SBS International School Bangkok community came together for D.E.A.R. Time — Drop Everything And Read — a special moment dedicated entirely to the joy of reading.

Across the campus, children, teachers, and staff paused their day to immerse themselves in books. Classrooms and shared spaces became calm, focused, and full of imagination, as everyone took time to step into stories, ideas, characters, and new worlds through reading.

More than just a reading activity, D.E.A.R. Time reflects the important role that literacy plays in a child’s development. When children read regularly, they build vocabulary, strengthen concentration, expand their imagination, and develop the confidence to explore ideas independently.

It also shows children that reading is not only something we do for lessons. It is something that can become part of everyday life — a habit that supports curiosity, wellbeing, creativity, and a lasting love of learning.

D.E.A.R. Time was a simple but meaningful reminder that reading has the power to bring a school community together. By making space for books within the rhythm of school life, we help children see reading as a source of joy, discovery, and growth.
