Phonics Parent Workshop: Helping Early Readers at Home

Parents of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children joined our Phonics Parent Workshop to learn the language of Read Write Inc. and how to support early readers at home.

Phonics Parent Workshop: Helping Early Readers at Home

Fred Talk, Fred Fingers, Red Words and Green Words. At our Phonics Parent Workshop on Wednesday 21 October, parents of our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children got to know the language of Read Write Inc., the phonics programme their children learn with at school.

In the school library, Ms Rachel Crossland, our Early Years & Primary Principal, Mr Sean, our ESL Lead Teacher, and Ms Shalane, our Early Years Lead Teacher, shared best practice and practical tips on supporting early readers at home — from learning the 44 pure sounds and blending them into words to reading books matched to the sounds children have learned.

At SBS Bangkok, children begin phonics at the end of Nursery, at an age when the brain is especially ready to build the foundations of reading.

Playing with sounds and sharing books, at school and at home, builds vocabulary, memory and confidence in communication. Thank you to the many parents who joined us.
