Multilingual Proficiency

In today’s interconnected world, the ability to speak two or more languages (Multilingual) is an invaluable asset. Our school’s education programme fosters a love for language and culture and develops proficiency in English (the language of instruction) and Thai, with the additional study of Mandarin Chinese also a feature of our curriculum from Early Years.

All classes up to Year 3 are taught in English with Thai teacher support – there are two teachers in the class. Sometimes learning pivots between English and Thai so that students can articulate learning concepts and outcomes in both languages – this is known as translanguaging.

Multilingual proficiency provides:

  • Fluency in both English and Thai with Mandarin as an additional ‘gateway’ language.
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills and more adaptable, resilient and sophisticated ways of thinking.
  • Intercultural understanding and cross-cultural competency.
  • A positive impact on neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to adapt and change).
  • A competitive advantage in our global community.
